Since 1991, "Snake River" Wayne Nelson has been a featured performer at many cowboy poetry events including the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering at Elko, Nevada, Gene Autry's Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, California, The Kamloops Cowboy Poetry Festival in British Columbia, Canada and the Cody, Wyoming Gathering, to name a few. He is a proud member and serves on the board of directors of Cowboy Poets of Idaho, inc. which presents the Golden Note Award for exceptional musical achievement, the Silver Quill Award for excellence in poetry and the CPI Hall of Fame. To date he is one of the very few who has been presented with all three. His love of history has been instrumental in organizing the yearly Diamondfield Jack Cowboy Gathering in Rupert, Idaho where the proceeds are used toward the restoration of the Historic Wilson Theater.
